AR Animated Album - 'thiscover'

This is my contribution to the awesome thiscover project powered by Alkanoids.

It's an ongoing art collaboration where music loving designers pick and animate an album cover of their choice - the animations are then brought to life through ARIA The AR Platform app by simply framing the album artwork.

I chose an album that’s been in my heavy rotation since its release, the epic ‘Them Crooked Vultures’ ( 2009 ) by supergroup Them Crooked Vultures - Dave Grohl, Joshua Homme and John Paul Jones.

For my animation

I envisioned a cauldron in which a potion is brewing - each band member comes in and adds their own ingredient to it.

A vulture egg is formed, it emerges from the liquid, floats in the air and cracks and the looping cycle starts again. All this while a storm is happening in the background.

My goal was to match the energy, whimsy and brilliance of the album and homage the great work by Liam Lynch and Morning Breath Inc.
